Wheengee Whungee Creek ~ 4-5 March 2006

Party: Chris Berwick, Greg Salway, Ashley Burke, James Bevan

We set out along the Uni Rover Trail and after couple of hours, dropped down into Wheengee Whungee Creek.

A quick sidle around a couple of short drops had us at the gigantic 85m Wheengee Whungee Falls.

It was an eventful morning. While Chris and I were scouting for belay points for the big drop I heard a loud call from above... "ROCK, BIG ROCK!". I was near the edge, so, of course, I looked up. A few seconds later a large "rock" comes hurtling down near my shoulder. However, from a quick glance I notice that this "rock" seems to have rather familiar bright orange sides. I do the math and realise "shit, it's Greg's pack" just as it passes my head. So I stick out my left arm, and somehow two of my fingers end up latching onto one of the compression straps.

Chris and I look at each other. Neither can believe I'd caught it. Lucky...If it had been a metre or so closer to me I could have been the one hurtling over the edge.

The next drop involved a 40m abseil into a nice deep pool. Unfortunately, we managed to get the rope stuck in a crack near the top. So Ashley walked back up to release it.

WW actually had a some pretty decent "canyon" sections like this one

There were a plenty of trout about, so when we got to central christys Chris tried his luck. Ashley managed to get two out (with only one hand), so that evening we dined in style.

Next morning we climbed up to the cars via Barralier's Crown.
