The Arthurs ~ 15 - 23 January 2006

Day 8 - Hanging Lake to Cracroft Crossing

This was a pretty scary day. High winds overnight had spread smoke from the small fire that had been burning nearby at Mt Castor.

It looks like mist - but its actually smoke.

We had no idea how far the actual fire had spread so we abandoned plans to climb Federation Peak and headed pack down off the range.

We decided to reverse our route from the previous day

Things hotted up considerably that day. After an early start, we reached Pass Creek for lunch. It was at least 35 degrees to we just sat in the creek for a while and waited until it cooled down before moving on to Cracroft Crossing.
