Mt Solitary ~ 1-2 December 2003

Party: James Bevan, Seb Brown

We were dropped off at the gate after lunch and headed down the road. A huge cairn marked the start of the track to Mt Solitary.

Kedumba Valley

We stopped for a break at the Kedumba River - its a beaut spot for a dip on a hot day. If drinking, just make sure you treat the water.

From there, it was up, up & more up to the Eastern Col. The erosion was pretty bad on the steepest sections, not helped, I'm sure, by many that've gone down via the bum slide.

a well earned rest

As always, the view from the top was well worth the effort.

Southern Col

The plan was initially to get to the she-oak forest on the other side. However, the plentiful supply of wood at a site on the eastern side was too good to refuse. We made camp at just before 6 and got the fire going.

Classy

The next morning we woke to a complete white out. No views to katoomba today. We made quick time down the knife-edge and around to the landslide.

Malaitia Walls

Past all the tourists near the scenic railway and some of the new "attractions". Then up the furber steps.
