Uluru ~ July 2004

The obligatory touristy shot

Up close

The climb. Tourists are asked not to climb Uluru, but many still do. The path is so well used that is has become very slippery. As a result several deaths have occurred.

One of many gems found at ground level

Uluru is of immense significance to aboriginal people. This is one of several (previously) permanent waterholes. When it rains, numerous canyons channel the water to ground. However, because some tourists climb the rock and go to the toilet (!!!) on top, the water is no longer drinkable. Very sad.
